Notability and outlook
Flatland Sugar exemplifies the new wave of digital independent country artists and bands leveraging digital distribution to reach mainstream audiences without major-label backing. The combination of melodic accessibility and traditional motifs positions this music within the expanding country-pop crossover movement that continues to shape contemporary Nashville sounds.

Hailing from Austin, L.A., and Georgia, Flatland Sugar fuses Southern grit with Nashville swagger, delivering modern country with a rebellious streak. Fronted by soulful vocalist Reed Moore, powerhouse drummer Anna Jack, bass and keys virtuoso Allan Hale, and songwriter, producer, and guitarist Scott Ripple, the band blends razor-sharp musicianship with songs that hit hard and stay with you. Their music lives where whiskey-fueled nights, broken hearts, and loud guitars collide—pairing unforgettable hooks with raw emotion and a sound that's equal parts backroad country and arena-ready attitude. Built for listeners who like their country with a little edge and a lot of soul, Flatland Sugar isn't chasing trends—they're kicking the doors open and making their own noise. Scott Ripple is a veteran producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose career has taken him from Austin stages to Nashville studios and just about everywhere in between. He got his start touring with Southern Gospel legends The Original Bells of Joy before spending several years in Nashville working as a session musician, mix engineer, and songwriter.

As the founder of Flatland Sugar, Scott produces and writes much of the band’s catalog, bringing together years of studio experience with a deep appreciation for songs that feel honest, immediate, and built to last.

Scott is a writer/publisher member of ASCAP Nashville, an A&R consultant for Cloud Palace Music and Howlin’ Rebel Recordings, and a senior staff writer at EMR Music Publishing.

Whether he’s producing, writing, playing, or working with a developing artist, Scott remains focused on the same thing that started it all: making great records and helping good songs find their way into the world.
